Meeting Seniors' Housing Needs

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of Americans age 50 and older will increase 30 percent in the next 20 years, growing from 100 million in 2010 to 130 million in 2030. A recent report by AARP's Public Policy Institute and the Center for Housing Policy outlines strategies to meet the housing needs of this growing demographic. Some of the recommended strategies include making homes more affordable for mature adults; weatherizing homes to reduce energy costs and improve health outcomes; connecting existing homes with social services; expanding transportation options for mature adults; and expanding housing choices for mature adults.

Water Restrictions Valencia Lakes

Information provided by Marisa Lufkin

Many of you may be aware that Hillsborough County increased the allowable watering schedule from one time per week to two times per week. While this is great news for many Hillsborough County residents it will not immediately benefit Valencia Lakes for the following reason:
Our current Water Use Permit, issued by SWFWMD, regulates the total amount of water used by our project over the course of the year. The permit does not regulate the number of waterings per month or week so this new policy provides more flexibility going forward but it doesn't increase the amount of water we may irrigate with.
This recent policy change will be most useful once our new pump station is operational and the weather places a high demand on the project's turf and landscaping. At that time we will be able to water enough to prevent hot spots and a decline in the turf's health.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this issue.

Sincerely,

Marisa Lufkin
